WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE FIRST CONSULTATION?
When you arrive at Dr Halliday's rooms, you will be asked to complete a New Patient Registration Form.
This can be downloaded from our website by clicking the link to save you time when you arrive.
For a first visit expect a 30 minute consultation to allow Dr Halliday to go through your history, examination and previous investigations. This first step is critical in ensuring that an accurate diagnosis can be made. The symptoms of many gastrointestinal problems can be similar and as a consequence, Dr Halliday will make a decision together with you about what tests, medications and/or procedures are required in order to accurately diagnose and manage the cause of your symptoms.
Whether you have been referred by a GP or other medical specialist, Dr Halliday will discuss the nature of your problem and any other relevant information, such as your general medical history and family history. A thorough medical examination will follow.
At the conclusion of your visit, Dr Halliday will write to your GP and any other referring doctor and relevant specialists, summarising your consultation and the planned investigations. Copies of the letter can be sent to you, if requested. Letters will also be sent after all subsequent consultations, and as the results of investigations become available.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENT?
At this visit Dr Halliday will either discuss with you the results of the investigations or monitor response to treatment. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the benefits and any contraindications of the treatments proposed.
Dr Halliday strongly advocates a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to the management of many gastrointestinal conditions. He may recommend the involvement of other specialists including dieticians, other medical and nurse specialists in your care - he will discuss this with you prior to any referral being made.
